Renato Zanelli canta "Un di, all' azzurro spazio" (1929)

De la ópera Andrea Chénier, de Umberto Giordano, traemos a este apartado esta aria que es uno de las más celebres junto a “La mamma morta”, que canta el personaje de Magdalena. “Un dì all’azzurro spazio” o, también llamada como “Improvviso” es, como su nombre indica, una improvisación que canta Andrea Chénier ante la mofa que una joven Magdalena le hace en la fiesta que realiza su madre,la condesa de Coigny(acto I). 

Born in 1892, Zanelli was Chilean by birth with an Italian father. He sang at the Met as a baritone from 1919-1922. However, he found some roles to be too heavy for his voice. So, in 1923 he went to Italy to retrain his voice and emerged from it as a tenor. He came to be regarded as the principal Italian Heldentenor of his day. His Otello was likened to that of the great Francesco Tamagno. This beautiful 1929 recording of Un di, all' azzurro spazio from Andrea Chenier is one of his best. Zanelli died at the early age of 43 in 1935. Enjoy this rarely heard recording of a truly great artist with a magnificently gorgeous voice.
